Kilnsey Agricultural Show @ Kilnsey Show
Aug 28 all-day

located outside the Yorkshire Food Hall early start selling our home cured bacon sandwiches, low fat buffalo burgers, all to eat on the day or if you wish pre-packed to take home with you.

Kilnsey Show first took place 1897 – Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee year. It’s keynote aim – as today – is to promote and showcase life and farming in the Yorkshire Dales, notably the breeding of livestock, along with crafts and rural traditions.

Well over a century on, Kilnsey Show & Sports, staged in the shadow of the famous Kilnsey Crag, has expanded and diversified to become one of the county’s largest one-day agricultural shows, one of the best known of its kind in the northern calendar, attracting competitors and visitors from near and far.

A great family day out, Kilnsey Show offers an enjoyable taste of life in the countryside. Keenly contested sheep and cattle classes are supplemented by horse events throughout the day – riding classes, shires, hunters, mountain and moorland; climaxing to a thrilling finish with harness racing. Our sheepdog trials attract many of the top dog handlers from all over the United Kingdom, supported by displays , demonstrations and attractions encompassing all aspects of agricultural and rural life.

There are also competition classes for produce, handicrafts, photography, art, flowers and flower arrangements, vegetables, walking sticks, vintage tractors, dry stone walling and farm crops. Up to 100 trade stands can also be found at Kilnsey. A food hall offering the best of regional produce is also available and well-known local chefs stage their cookery master-classes featuring a range of local produce.

Kilnsey Show offers all-round family appeal with much to interest our younger visitors, including our standalone Children’s Marquee, which offers a host of educationally-led activities.

Towards the end of the afternoon, Kilnsey Sports take centre stage, notably the famous fell races, involving the punishing ascent and descent of famous Kilnsey Crag, one of the toughest sporting challenges, followed by the thrilling excitement of the harness racing.

Delicious burgers – bought at Honley Show yesterday. My son asked for more after devouring his. He’s never liked burgers before and I only ever buy Aberdeen Angus ones otherwise.
I just wish they were available closer to Halifax.

Bought 2 buffalo burgers this morning at Wentworth farmers’ market. Couldn’t be bothered cooking Sunday lunch so we had the burgers with chips & salad. Absolutely delicious – they didn’t shrink, hardly any fat came out of them – they stayed really moist and what a wonderful taste, will definitely be buying more soon.

I braised some of your wonderful buffalo braising steak for four hours with cyprus potatoes and was blown away at how tender and succulent the meat was surpassing even the best beef. Wonderful, wonderful meat that I will cook with again and again. Thank you!
